Corporate Identity Questionaire

1)   What is your business?
Pretty For a Penny: We provide gently used, but stylish clothing, accessories and shoes to teenage girls and young women who cannot afford the "latest trends" at full retail price.
2)   Describe your business in one sentence
We buy and sell gently used clothing for young girls.
3)   Who is your target audience?
Teenage girls and young women.
4)   Who are your competitors?
Plato's Closet and other thrift stores
5)   What makes them better/worse than your product/service?
Although Plato's Closet is welcome to boys as well, most locations are very small. They also do not sell or buy prom dresses like we do. They only accept name brand items, but we accept any stylish clothing.
6)   Do you currently have an identity? no
7)   (If your answer to #6 is no, skip this question)  What do you like about it and what don’t you like about it?
1)   How do you want your image to be seen in two years?
In 2 years we want to be "the place to go" when girls want to go shopping. We would rather them come to us than spend far too much money at the mall. We want to be trustworthy and well known by everyone.
2)   If your company was an animal, what animal would it be and why?
We would be a bunny, because they are always cute, adorable and loving; just as they hop from place to place, our stores will be hoppin' as well.
3)   If your company/brand was a person, who would it be and why?
Jennifer Laurence, because she is a new actress but EVERYONE loves her. She is so down to earth but classy, and she is a wonderful actress. She seems to be "everyone's best friend," and we want to be the best store you can count on.
4)   If your company/brand was an object, what would it be?
We would be a pearl necklace that ties together with a bow. Not only do we sell clothing, but we sell accessories and shoes as well. Like our store, pearls have an elegant appeal, and the bow tying it together keeps everything in place.
5)   If your customer was a cartoon character, who would it be?
One of our customers may be the older sister in "Phineas and Ferb." She is a teenage girl and always wants to be stylish and pretty, and we would provide stylish and pretty clothes for very little cost.

Custom Graphic

I chose a picture of the Philadelphia skyline and gave it an oil painting twist just because I wanted a dreamlike feeling to the graphic. I used the umbrella as my "brush" and put various umbrellas throughout the picture to show that the girl isn't the only one who can "float away" and that anyone, big or small, can dream and go places in life.

Lyric Collage

The song I chose was "Thunder" by Boys Like Girls. The record player already looked somewhat graphic like, so I made the face look like a graphic as well to mix in. I liked the way the orange and purples flow together, so I tried to make the music notes not fully black and white.

Vector Image

I chose a picture of my little brother for this project. I had no idea how time consuming it would be and it took me forever! I did like this project though; I liked being able to take a picture and change it this way. I struggled a lot figuring out how to do it but I liked the outcome. In the net, it may look like some strings are missing but that is just because in the picture they actually are. I blurred the gras and background as much as possible, not only because they are blurred in the original image, but because I wanted my brother to stand out as much as possible.

Corpse Project March 20

I chose the "bird clock" for my project. I thought the original design on it looked like a lightning bolt, which reminded me of the Lightning hockey team, so I made my bird a hockey player.

Analyzing 5 Company Logos

FedEx: The FedEx logo may catch attention in different ways. First, the two colors catch the viewer's eyes by the contrasting colors of dark purple and bright orange, making it memorable. Once the attention is geared toward it, one will notice the hidden arrow between the E and the X. By this simple arrow, the customer gets the message that their package will be delivered from point A to B if they use FedEx's services.

HotWheels: With the fun print of the HotWheels' logo, kids will be drawn to remember the symbol. It is fun and vibrant- meanwhile, the "hot colors" red and yellow which they use, remind you of fire which is essentially, "hot." The flame trailing off the logo also reminds you of the "hot wheels," and the rhythm that the logo moves in is sort of like a car speeding off.

Disney: The Disney logo is simple, yet effective. With Walt Disney's signature infront of Cinderella's castle, it is memorable to everyone. The handwriting of the man who started it all is outstanding from anyone else's handwriting- and people now recognize it as a "Disney font." The Castle behind his handwriting not only reminds the customers of the magic Disney has to offer, but the magic of the amusement parks which it markets for, as well.

Steak n' Shake: The simple black and white logo is given a 50's twist, which is exactly what the restaurant offers. It is just like a 50's diner, and everything about the logo, from the font, the colors, and the shape reminds you of the 1950's. Within the logo, they also market their "steakburgers" by saying "Famous for our Steakburgers," which immediately makes a hungry stomach want to go there!

Target:  Target's logo is short, sweet and to the point, since it is literally a target. The bold lines and simple colors aren't too flashy and since it is a target itself, you'll always be reminded of the store.

My name's Devon Nestel, I'm from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
I'm a graphic design major and I live in Smiley Hall.
From this class, I hope to learn how to actually use computers because I've only taken one graphic design class and am still very new to this.
